GALLANT RESCUE
PLUNGE IN SHARK HAUNTED' BAY. -I After t sprinting ‘half a mile on a bicycie, Roy Phillis, an employee of the New South Wales State Quarry, plunged into Kaiama Harbour, and resoued Jack Hardy (II), who was drowning twenty-three yards from the shore Phillis, from his home near the bay, noticed a: boy waving a garment wildly, near the water’s edge. He sprang on to his bicycle and rode as fast as he could to the. spot where _he say young Hardy floating, unconscious, in the water. /' Although almost exhausted by hik ride, Phillis dived, and succeeded in briuging the boy ashore, where firstaid treatment was successfully applied. Hardy and a companion had been fishing from the rocks and the former had fallen in. The depth at the spot is 30 feet, and the water in the vicinity is shark-infested.
