REMARKS BY MR HOPKINS. STANDARD GREATLY IMPROVED. At the competitions last night, Mr J. H. Hopkins, in saying farewell, said that, although his task had been a tremendous one—he had listened to over 1500 items—he had enjoyed it very much. The work had entailed concen trated and earnest thought, hut he had received valuable assistance and co-ops ration from the executive. He considered that the society was under excellent management. He had been delighted with the standard of the work, and said it had reached a higher level than on his last visit. He had noticed a marked improvement in several of the competitors who had appeared before him on previous occasions, and considered they were developing on the right lines. The competitions, he stated, were doing a great amount of good, and even the unsuccessful ones must benefit by the time they had spent in studying good literature. It helped them to cultivate an artistic taste. In conclusion) .he «aid that His stay had been a most enjoyable one, and he looked forward to visiting Wellington again.
