CHEAP FLYING
LONDON TO ROME FOR 20s. GLIDERS’ POSSIBILITIES. Renter’s TVlse-osm. LONDON, October 11. Flight-Lieutenant Longton, flying a motor glider at the Lympne competition, rounded the course with a petrol consumption equivalent to a gallon for 871 miles, equalling the previous best record. Mr Hinckler completed 812 miles, and is maintaining the lead in the reliability test.
It is calculated that these performances mean that it is possible for a pilot to fly from London to Rome for an expenditure of 20s for fuel. Captain MacMillan broke the speed record by flying at 661 miles an hour covering 25 miles at an average speed of 76 miles per hour.
