At Portland, tho convention of the American Federation of Labour adopted a resolution for a modification ot tlie Volstead law, without a roll-call, than one-fifth of the membership being mustered for a resolution approving the law. The convention asked for light wines and beer, declaring that between the lawless vendor of forbidden liquors on one side, and the lawless enforcement office on the other ride, the public suffered irreparable damage, owing to the subsequent diminution of respect for any law.
