OTIRA TUNNEL
DATE OF OPENING > What date will the Otira tunnel Bo opened, asked Mr Q, W- Forbes (Hurunui), in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon. The Hon. J. G. Coates (Minister for Public Works and Railways) replied that it was just a question of arranging the date with Cabinet. They knew now approximately when the tunnel would be ready to run goods through, and passengers, and he hoped to be able to inform the House very shortly v*lien it would be opened. Really the question was when it would be suitable for Parliament to go down. (Hear, hear.) It might he arranged for them to do so next Friday. At. any rate, he hoped to arrange it for a week-end. (Hear, hear.)
