MATCH AT PALMERSTON, CALTHORPE SCORES A CENTURY Per Press Association. PALMERSTON N., February 6. High winds, with heavy showers, did not provide very pleasant conditions for the match, M.C.C. v. Minor Associations. Although the weather remained fine, the wicket was dead at the start, but the wind driest! tt\e surface quickly, and it rolled out in favour of the batsmen. Hartley won the toss, and the visitors, commencing their innings at 2.25 o’clock, batted all the afternoon, chiefly on account of the bright, but not faultless, 126 rung by Caithorpe, and when stumps were drawn M.C.C. had lost eight wickets for 806 runs. The attendance was about 1000. Tho batting commenced brightly, the first century being telegraphed in eixty minutes, but the latter part of t)he innings became slower. Caithorpe gave three chances, and with the exception of Gibson and Hartley none of the others displayed international form, and the wicketg went fairly cheaply. The ground, fielding and bowling of the borne team wag good, but the catching was faulty. The most successful bowlers were Grant (Manawatu) and W. W.
