The F’ree State, batting first, made 170 (Smart 58, De Villiers 26). Jupp took six wickets for 30 rune, Mead two for 11. M. had lost two wickets for 135 (Sandham 57, Street 23, Russell 48 not out) when stumps were drawn. The weather was fine, and the wicket good The Free State scored 136 for the loss of four wickets, but the ten last wickets fell for an additional 34 runs, Jupp taking the last five wicket's in six overs foi 12 runs.
