EASY WIN AT TEMUKA. CHAPMAN'S MERRY DAY. Per Press Association. TIMARU, January 10. The cricket match' M.C.C. against the combined Ashburton, South Canterbury and North Otago team was continued to-day at Temuka in beautiful weather. The visitors carried their over-night score of 281 to 407, Chapman and Calthorpe being the principal ecorers, taking the score nearly 100 in the last wicket stand. Chapman lashed out freely all round the wicket, finding no difficulty with the five bowlers tried. His score included fourteen boundaries, and he gave one very hard chance at square leg when 77. Calthorpe opened hiß shoulders to all the loose stuff, and hit half a century in thirty minutes before being clean bowled. He hit three out of the ground for six, and six boundaries for four. The Englishmen’s innings lasted 2} hours, and was bright and crisp throughout. The most successful bowler for the combined team was MoWhirter, whose six wickets cost 153 runs. The, combined team, in their second innings, gave a much improved display, especially the opening and closing batsmen, Hay registering six boundaries (four oft successive balls from Chapman). The innings closed with the' Englismen an innings and 203 runs to the good. Titchmarsh, with four wickets for 44 .runs, and Wilson three for 17, were the most successful bowlers for the visitors. An exhibition innings was played by the M.C.C. team at the close of the game. The scores were : COMBINED TEAM.
