WORKHOUSE DIET NOT APPRECIATED. Reuter's Tnlssrsm. LONDON, January 2. - A deputation of unemployed, whs have marched from Scotland, and who were joined in tbe Midlands by • clergyman, called on the Metropolitan Asylums Board to protest against the workhouse diet. Questioned as to what oenstituted a fair diet, the leader, Mr Hammington, remarked that some of the men had walked 700 miles. He suggested that breakfast should include bacon, dinner meat and vegetables, tea bread and butter, and supper should he given. The chairman waa unable to authorise such a diet, whereupon the. deputation went to the Health Ministry, where the members decided to remain until they were ejected. The deputation was finally escorted unresistingly from the building by a doaen constables.
