N.Z. GOLF ASSOCIATION

MEETING OF COUNCIL. The _ usual r monthly meeting of the Council of the New; Golf Association wag held this week. ’There were present Messrs R. C... Kirk.-(in the ohair), M. O. Baimebt, A, D. 9. Dunoon, and W. E. A. Gill. An apology for unavoidable absence was received from Mr A. F. Roberts. A request was reoeived from one of the .affiliated clubs that the Council should protest against the high premiums charged for public accident risk ami it was decided to write to the. Underwriters’ Association, asking for a special reduction in respect or accidents on golf links. The Council 1 derided to make a strong recommendation to all clubs to give tiheir active support to the N.Z. Sports Protection League, which, is doing so much an the interests of sport generally. RULES OF THE GAME. The Royal and ancient golf club of St. Andrews wrote forwarding a copy of the rules of that club, together, with records of many of the most important golf events, and asked that the Council nominate someone in New Zealand to co-operate with the Royal' and Ancient tod act as correspondent for them in the Dominion. It was unanimously resolved that Mr R. 0. Kirk be nominated to act. ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. ' On the recommendation of the Christchurch Golf CSub it was derided to adopt an “automatic draw” in connection with the qualifying rounds. Briefly, the principle of thus draw fa that the 16 men who qualify will be drawn in the following way, irrespective of who they may be :—■ No. 1 on the qualifying list plays No. 16; No. 8 plays No. 9; 4 plays 13; 5 plays 12; 6 plays 11; 14 plays 3; 10 plays 7; 15 plays 2. After the first round the draw will go on automatically, that fa to say; the .winner of the first match on the sheet plays the winner of the second, the third plays the fourth tod Bo on. This should ensure an “even” draw and to. interesting final. It was decided that the team of amateurs which is to play the professionals on Saturday September 9th will be selected by the Golf Council on the previous Friday evening. As regards the match, ladies against men, it was decided that the men’s team will comprise eight amateurs in the qualifying’ rounds and if any of tlieae cannot play, in the match the next on the list will be selected.
