THE BALL OR THE MAN f Mr C. Webster wrote that after seeing the Test match on Saturday, and afteT conversations with players just out from Home, he was convinced that the game in the Dominion could be greatly improv. ed by playing tbe ball and not the man He moved that a letter be sent to the N.Z.F.A., asking that with the next Test match at Auckland blocking play be cut out. Tbe game would never become popular if played l in the same style as last Saturday. Mr Godber said the play was obstructive. but it was straight-forward charging. If they were to do away with charging it would make the game deteriorate into a drawingroom game. Mt Dick said he did not wish to stop charging, but only to stop charging a player when he had not possession of the hall.
It was decided to send the lotter to the New Zealand Football Council. The chairman moved that a letter be sent to the local Referees’ Association, drawing attention to the undue amount of charging going on at the matches, and asking them to curtail it as much as possible. Mr \yehster seconded the motion, -which was carried, Mr Williams protesting against the resolution, as it. was against the rules. • Another speaker said that the Referees* Association would only reply that they had to administer the rules of the game.
