CHILDREN’S PLAY AREA
SUITABLE PROPERTY SECURED STREET FLOWER DAY ARRANGED. At the monthly meeting of the management committee of the Boys’ Institute and S- A. Rhodes Home for Boys, held on Monday evening, the president, Mr G. A. Troup, reported on the steps taken to provide a play area for children on the grounds immediately in front of the hospital. The institute, he said, had secured a lease of the property, the area being 340 ft by 110 ft, and the Hospital Board would erect a suitable fence and prepare the ground, the institute finding the necessary apparatus, which was estimated to cost about £IOOO, and also arrange for competent supervision. It is hoped that tho Cits 7 Council will provide the necessary conveniences for women and children. Seeing that the effort is a community one, it was resolved to hold a street flower day on Friday, July sth, and kindred organisations are to be invited to assist on that occasion. In connection with the street day, a community sing will be held at 12.30, and Mr Albert Russell has offered his assistance. The president has extended an invitation for a social .gathering to those ladies and gentlemen who are willing to assist, and this will take place on Friday evening next in the institute social hall, Tasman street. Various committees were set up to make arrangements for the street day, and i* is hoped to raise the amount required. Mr Troup stated that it was intended to make the play area the most up-to-date in tho Dominion.
