WILFORD-STATHAM BREACH

THE PROBABLE REASON. PLATFORM AND DUNEDIN NORTH. Mr C. E. Statham, M.P., when interviewed yesterday as to tho cause of his withdrawal from the United Liberal and Labour Party, confirmed the statement made by Mr T. M. Wilford, M.P. (Leader of the Opposition), but refused to discuss the reason for the breach. It is understood, however, that it was probably finally due to the failure to complete and publish the party Slatform in time for the Dunedin iorth by-eleotion. The long delay in publishing the programme is held to have seriously handicapped the party’s candidate at the by-election, and the split has followed. It is expected that the National Progressive and Moderate Labour Party, formerly led by Mr Statham, will resume as a separate body; as a matter of fact, its organisation was never completely merged in that of its temporary associate.
