“POPPY DAY” ON MONDAY
A PRACTICAL WAY TO HELP OUT-OF-WORK “DIGGERS.”
N.Z.R.S.A. APPEAL. , Nothing is more heartbreaking to a married man than to be out of work and see his wife and children starving. Nothing is more heartbreaking to a fit and able man than to be unsuccessful in hie endeavours to earn an honest living. At the present time over 1000 ex-soldiers are out of work and the N.Z.R.B.A. has decided to help them by devoting the net proceeds of the Poppy Day sales to finding work for these men.
At the end of last year the N.Z.R.S.A.- received about 300,000 artificial poppies from Northern France for sale on Poppy Day, and the last Dominion executive decided to devote the proceeds of the sale to the moot urgent necessity of returned men—the relief of soldier unemployment. The money obtained in a district will be spent on work in that district, and the Public Works Department will be consulted about the allocation and urgency of such work. Married soldiers with children and not in receipt of a pension will be helped first. Beautiful silken poppies made in Franco will he sold in the streets on Poppy Day, April 24 th—replicas of those brave, flaunting, crimson blossoms that grew beside the trenches, and booide those sacred graves in France and Flandere—symbols -of sacrifice. May every poppy bought throughout the Dominion be a symbol to -its buyer of fho sacrifice bo has made to help some poor “Digger’s” family. Do not forget your promise to tho fighting man—“ We’ll see you through ” Do your bit now—buy a poppy for Anzao Day.
