THE GENERAL ELECTIONS
THE WAITOMO SEAT. REFORM CANDIDATE CHOSEN. At a meeting of Reform supporters, Mr Jdhn Christopher Rolieston was chosen to contest the seat in the interests of the Reform Party for the Waitomo seat at the general election. Mr Rolieston ihas been a farmer at Raugitoto, in the backblocks, for the last 14 years. He is a son of the late Hon. W. Rolieston, a member of Sir Harry Atkinson’s 'Government. REPRESENTATION OF KAIAPOI. MR JONES MAY NOT STAND. It is rumoured that Mr J. H. Black, well, will contest the Ksiapoi seat in the Reform interest at the general election, and that Mr David Jones will remain as permanent chairman of tfho Meat Producers’ Board. WAIRARAPA SEAT. GENERAL HART WILL NOT STAND. ‘ !—■ Brigadier-General Hart has stated that owing to pressure on. his time he had no intention of contesting the Wairarapa seat even if he should reoeive the petition which, it is stated, the soldier settlers are sending him. He has just recovered from the strain of the war, and would not venture to enter upon a strenuous election campaign. FARMERS IN POLITICS. APPOINTMENT OF LEADER. Mr A. A. Rose haa been appointed leader of the Country Political Party, promoted by the Farmers* Union in the Auckland province. Action will immediately he taken to organise the party’s campaign for the forthcoming genera# election.
