CITY MILK SUPPLY
CIVIC LEAGUE’S PRiOTEST.
“HASTY ACTION” CONDEMNED. A committee was recently set up by the Civic League to investigate the matter of the City Council’s milk service. At a meeting astonishment was expressed at the hasty manner in which the City Council haa dealt with tho distribution scheme submitted by the milk committee of the council. It will be recommended to strongly protest against the hurried adoption of a project involving an outlay of £21,600. The league’s committee i« not satisfied that the £21,500 presented by Councillor Norwood as a cash balance on which the council can carry out the scheme is not rather of the nature of a temporary balance which the council will have to liquidate by payments. The statement also, with reference to the coupon system, that when it was put into operation there would be enough in hand from the purchase of coupons in advance was regarded. as a suggestion: of instituting practically a forced loan on the public. _ The committee states that a good deal of opposition is likely to be met with if such is the intention of the council.
