THE TERRACE LIFT
SELECTING A SITE. INSPECTION BY FINANCE COMMITTEE. . For many years residents on the higher levels of the Terrace and surrounding district have been agitating for improved access to that portion of the western slopes by means of a lift. It was only a few months ago that a definite guarantee was secured, in re■porwe to ' the representations of a large deputation, that their request would be considered, and subsequently provision for the work was made in the schedule of the big loan authorised in December last by the ratepayers. The finance committee of the City Council is now considering the location of the proposed lift, and a visit of inspection will be made to-day by the Mayor (the chairman), and the members, accompanied by the city engineer, in order that they may better be able to select the best site. The construction of the lift will, of conrss, entail the purchase of privatelyowned property, and the committee will have several mattem to consider in making a choice. , The committee will in due course make a recommendation to the council according to its decision.
