Charles Porter, aged 50, was working at the edge of the face when he was struck on the head by a cheese-shaped rook weighing 301 b from the hillside and knocked over the cliff. He fell abont 20 feet to a rock ledge. The foreman, Mays, jumped over and saved the man from falling further. The injured man was hauled up with ropes and carried two miles to a motor road, and thence brought to the hospital. William Edward Carter, aged 21, While taking photographs of the Rera river, near Centre Bush, slipped on the green vegetation, and fell from the rocky face into the river and was drowned.
