TO BE REINSTATED
THE MoKENZIE CAIRNThe collapse of the cairn of btones erected near Palmerston South to the memory of the late S'ir John McKenzie was brought to the attention of the Prime Minister yesterday afternoon by Mr R. McCallum (Wairau). For some years, stated the hon. member, the sum of £SOO had been plaoed on the Estimates to reinstate it, but the work had not been done. He asked the Prime Minister, now that the price of material had come down, to reinstate the cairn. The matter was regarded by sentimental Highlanders as of great importance. Mr Massey replied that he would be very glad to comply with the request. He had looked for the cairn last time be was down in Otago, but. he could not find it. He had quite expected that it had been reinstated. He hoped that the cairn would be re-erected at a comparatively early date. hca r.)
