MASTERTON A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

VARIOUS MATTERS DISCUSSED.

(Special to “Times.”) MASTER-TON, March 12. The’ monthly meeting of the general committee of the Masterton A. and P. Association, was held this afternoon, Mr W. H. Buick presiding. Air Alfred E Stephen wrote on behalf of the Chilian Nitrate Committee, of Sydney, in reference to the conduct mg of agricultural experiments and suggesting that one experiment be carried out with nitrate of soda, the amount of nitrate .of soda to bo supplied free by the Chilian Nitrate Committee. Mr Stephen wrote in reference to holding a junior competition for wheat, oats, or mangolds growing or even for a competition for nay pastures. He would be prepared to offer a prize of £3 3s towards such a competition, the amount to be increased to £4 4s in the erent of there being six or more individual competitors, tno extra money being given as a second prize- It was decided to refer the matter to the association’s agricultural committee. A letter was received from the Department of Agriculture to the effect that the Shaw,Savfll and Albion Company had arranged for a steamer to can at Monte A 7 ideo and carry fruit and live stock provided there was sufficient inducement. It was stated that a steamer was expected to leave New Zealand about March 21st. The freight to be charged was 8s 2d per case for fruit and £2l per head for sheep, ft was painted out that the rates for both fruit and sheep were altogether too high, and that it was an off season. Twenty-four new members were elect-

ed. , The treasurer submitted a statement in connection with the recent show. Tho receipts totalled £1923, and the expenditure £1776, a profit of £147 # being thus shown over the show. _ The show account in 1920 resulted in a debit balance of £356, consequently the account this year was over £SOO better oft. The secretary was voted a bonus o 5 £25. Complaints regarding the conduct of the show were discussed, and suggestions were made to remedy in future the matters complained of.
