ADRIFT AT SEA
THREE MEN IN A BOAT. RESCUED BY STEAMER HAWERA. Shortly before 2 p.m. yesterday tho captain of tho steamer Hawera, bound from Patea to Wellington; when off Sinclair Head, picked up an almost water-logged 15-foot boat, which was a mile out from shore, containing three men, who were in sore plight. The rescued men gave their names as J. W. Allen, J. Robinson, and W. Afer. InterviewedT>y a “Times” reporter, the captain said he saw the three men standing up in the boat waving to attract- attention, and he went to their assistance. It appears they launched the boat from Karori creek on Saturday afternoon, and were carried ont to sea by a strong nor’-wester. They had no rowlock®, and, despite efforts to bail the boat, she became half full of water, and was adrift some time before being picked up by the Hawera. The bbat was named the Poker. So far the men have not been located, as it is reported that they dis appeared as soon as -they landed.
