ENCOURAGEMENT BY THE ‘ , BANKSThe scheme recently fomulated by the New Zealand Bank Officers’ Guild for the higher educational -braining of bank officers is receiving practical encouragement. and support from the hanks. Already the Bank of New Zealand has given a lead in this important matter. The general manager (Mr H. Buckleton) has informed the general secretary of the guild (Mr H. P. Mourant, what the Bank of New Zealand is prepared to do. It will pay one-half the fees for the special correspondence course, and one-half of the university fees of all its officers who proceed to examination. The bank will pay the balance .of these fees to all its officers wh,o pass the examination. A bonus of £lO will be paid to every officer of the bank who obtains not less than 10 per cent, over “pass” marks in not less than two subjects, and a further -bonus of £lO to the officer of the hank who obtains the highest number of marks in each yearly examination, provided that he has passed in no less than two subjects. The guild is much gratified by this liberal offer, and believes it will do much towards the achievement of one af the guild’s own most prominent objects, efficiency of members, and at the same time give considerable impetus to the movement already begun in the direction of increased efficiency/Jn the commercial section of the community.
