THE SETTLEMENT
NO OFFICIAL* STATEMENT. No official statement was forthcoming yesterday as to the terms of the agreement arrived at in conference between the two parties. It was, howerver. unofficially stated to a “Times” reporter that there had been a coni promise—a little unbending on both sides —on the matters in diepate. Thus the employers who, in the first instance, had declined to accede to *h«» men’s demand in the matter of bonus, and had refused to grant more than Id per hour, had agreed to increase the bonus, though not up to the amount asked by the men. As to the demands of the employers, that the watersiders should enter into a bond of £IOOO as a guarantee that work on the waterfront would proceed uninterruptedly in the future, and that in the ! event of a breach of the agreement the amount would be estreated, they also (it was said) were modified, a much I smaller amount being fixed on. It is on these points that the Watersidera’ Federation is now consulting the affiliated unions In the Dominion.
