A BUSY WATERFRONT
ACTIVITIES RESUMED
GENERAL OVERTIME WORKED LAST NIGHT. UNIONS TO BE CONSULTED. The waterficnt reassumed yesterday its customary - appearance of bustle and industry, and work is now proceeding as usual. There us, if anything, a little more than the .rdinarv expedition noticeable, a fact which is probably accounted for by the extra energy gained by the workers during the past, three weeks of inactivity. No objection was raised to the working of overtime last evening, and operations were performed on fourteen vessels. An official who is in close touch with affairs on the wharves stated yesterday that he had been agreeably surprised at the smoothness of the working yesterday after the hold-up. No friction of any sort had been experienced. It was estimated that about 1200 men were working yesterday afternoon. Of this number about 460 were employed by the Harbour Board, while the balance received engagements from the various shipping companies. The average number ot men working on the waterfront daily is about 1700, jand it fa stated that it there had been 500 roore men available yesterday they would all have received contracts. A lot of the men during the hold-up have left the city for odd jobs in the country, while others in and around the city did not receive information that the dispute bad broken and that their services would ho required. It is expected that a large number of these workers will be available this morning. Tile terms of 'settlement of the dispute have not yet been announced. It is understood that the agreement is being referred either in whole or part to the various unions throughout the Dominion for ratification. A “stop-work” meeting of the local union is to be held on Tuesday morning, and the terms of the settlement will probably be then discussed. Meetings will also he held at the other ports within the next few days. Tho result will not be bo available for some days after the meetings have taken place.
