METHODS OF EMPLOYMENT AND CONTROL. ROYAL COMMISSION WANTED. At question time yesterday reference was made to the waterside dispute. Colonel Mitchell (Wellington South) asked the Prime Minister, without notice, whether, in view of the national loss to the Dominion from continual and repeated interruptions of''trade in the ports of the Dominion, causing widespread inconvenience and loss to the workers and the general community alike, and in view of the necessity for a better system of employment and control of labour on the waterfront, will the Government- this session set up a Royal Commission to report on—(I) The defects of the existing methods of waterside control; (2) the desirability of changing the present Bystem of employment and control of labour on the waterfront, so as to ensure permanent employment under good conditions and regularity of service; and (3) the most practical methods to adopt to secure improved, conditions. Mr Massey suggested that the hon. member should place the question on the order paper, so that he could give the considered reply that the. importance of the question desired.
