COMMUNITY CLUB

CITIZEN-SOLDIERS’ CARNIVAL, LARGE AUDIENCES DELIGHTED. The early succesam [at the Citizen*, Soldiers" Carnival, which is being held at the Town Hall, wen repeated vester- ■ sy, when there were very large audiences at both the afternoon and evening sessions. No doubt the fact that the object of the fete is the raising of funds towards the establishment of a Community Club for Senior Cadets and Territorials makes a big appeal to the public, but assuredly a more powerful magnet is daily drawing the huge crowds to thq carnival. The attractions there- are responsible, for they delight all who see and listen. A representation of the famous Waitomo caves is a magnificent sight, the glow-worm cave being especially well conceived. Then there is an exhibition of wnr trophies which were captured from the Huns. Turks, and Arabs, photographs taken in the wav zone, and a number of old piece- of armour and old-time war weapons taken from the Tower of London. Mu-ical items, dancing, military and gymnastie displays are given every day,, end all are different. \

The conceits last evening were very freely patronised, gnd they were very successful. Th« pupils of Miss Dorothy Saunders and Miss Helen Gard'ncr were heartily applauded for their offerings in the concert chamber at 8 p.m. The entertainment, comprised ..of song, monologue and dance, was contributed to by Sinclair Breen, Mavis King.* Dorothy I'otter, Miss Mary Cooley.
