HOSPITAL AFFAIRS

CONSIDERED BY BOARD. A meeting of the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday, the chairman, Mr F. Castle, presiding. There were also ‘ present:— Mesdames Carver, MoVicar and Snow, Rev. H. van Stayeren, and Messrs C EC. Chapman, C. Luke, A. J. Me Curdy, J. W. McEwan, G. Nash, G. J. Petherick, J. Smith, E. Windley. A sub-committee comprising Messrs Castle, Chappian, Nash, McEwan and tho medical superintendent, which was set up to go fully into the question of utilising the board’s property at the Macarthy Home for'Convalescent Children, was empowered to give effect to the following proposals: (a) To purchase a cow in full milk as soon as possible, and an additional cow later on, about April or May; (b) that in view of the backward state of the grounds instructions be given to make the best use of the existing crop of vegetables; (o) that in order to make the best use pf the fruit trees and the available ground 'a competent gardener be employed about March or April; (d) that arrahgements be made far increasing the number of fowls up to about 400 so that the hospital may obtain Its own supply of fresh eggs (e) that the question of accommodation for the employees be gone fully into. The finance, property find policy committee drew attention to the need for observing Strict economy, the expendiure for the period of nine months having exceeded the estimates. The medical superintendent of the dental branch reported as follows:—Number of attendances, 252; number of out-patients treated, 196: number of in-patients (staff and wards), 56; number of new patients, 42; total fees for month, £56 16s 6d; fees received by cash, £56 9s; non-paying cases, 63. Accounts for the month amounting to £7754 15s 2d wore passed for payment.
