A.S.R.S. AND WAGES

BOARD OF INVESTIGATION. SITTINGS IN WELLINGTON OPENED. The Wages Board appointed by the .Government to go into tho claims of - the A.S.R.S. for increased wages dating from June commenced its sitting in Wellington yesterday. The constitution of the board is as follows : Mr G. Elliot (Auckland), chairman; Mr J. McDonal, assistant-general manager ; Mr W. Mouat, chief clerk; and Mr J. MoArtney, repreeenting the department; and Mr R. .Hampton, president, Mr M.' J. Mack, secretary, and Mr R. Moore, an executive member, representing the A.S.R.S. The same procedure as followed in connection with the setting up of the previous Wages Board was followed in respect to this board. The proceedings are private, and the I inquiry is strictly limited to the question of wages. The society is asking -fod an approximate increase of 6s to tho minimum wage of £4 10s per Treok. Should the board fail to reach a settlement, the points of difference will come on for further consideration. at the triennial conference of the society to bo held in Wellington during the month of February. Mr M. J. Mack, when seen -by a “Times” reporter- at the conclusion of yesterday's sitting, said that the board had been engaged in preliminary discussion, and, as yet, there was no statement for publication.
