CHARGES OF BURGLARY
OLD WOMAN’S PLUCKY ACTION. Press Association. AUCKLAND, January 25. James Eidling. who reserved his defence, was committed for trial at Pukekoho to-day on a charge of burglary on January 12th. Mrs Leach deposed that she retired about 11 p.xn., and later heard six loud knocks on tin front door. Then tho kitchen window was smashed, and a man entered her bedroom. Ho sat on the floor and slid towards her. She jumped out of bed and caught up a knife. Tho man sprang at her and caught her hands. They struggled together. and she, getting exhausted, stabbed Tier assailant through tho hand. Ho fled from the bedroom and she followed him, opened tho door, and drove him out. Her ago was seventyeight in June last, and she was living alone. Her eyesight was bad.
