SERIOUS ACCIDENT

FISHING PARTY HAS EXCITING RIDE.

THROWN FROM BUGGY AND BADLY INJURED.

A serious accident occurred on Sunday evening to a party returning from a fishing to Lake Tarawera. consisting of tho Hon. Thomas Thompson, M.L.C., Messrs W. Waddell (engaged »t tho Government baths), C. R. Tapper (licensee of the Palace Hotel), and his son Jack. The party had a double-seated buggy and a pair of horses. At Tititapu Flat the horses took fright. One of the pole straps broke, striking the near horse heavily. Tho horses galloped up a long rise and round dangerous curves, eventually striking one of tho innerbanks and hurling tho whole party on to the road. Jack Tapper was the only one who escaped injuries. The sufferers were attended to by Dr Bertram, and are all in a private hospital, Air Thompson had two- arms broken md was severely shaken. It is believed he had some ribs broken. Mr Waddell has a broken arm, and Mr Tapper has a badly-sprained knee. After the occupants of the buggy were thrown out. the horses continued their career. They met Air Roberts, clerk of the court, riding a horse, with his son on a pony. The son was thrown, sustaining a broken arm.
