TRAINING SHIP AMOKURA
The prises in connection -with the annual boxipg and draughts competitions were presented by. Commander Hooper on board the training ship Amokura yesterday afternoon. The finals in the boxing competition took place ;in the ship's schoolroom on I'Tiday evening last, the officials being as follow President and chairman. Commander Hooper; timekeeper, Mr E. S. Pyke (first engineer,!; referee, Mr E. Martin (instructor); judge, Mr J. Power (instructor). The Wellington South Cadet Drum and i ife Band, under Sergeant-Major Brown, and several visitors, including Messrs Herd, Millier, Cowles, and Healy, were present and witnessed, the contests, by invitation of the Amokura sports committee. Ths events, which were keenly ; contested, were watched with much interest, and the musical selections rendered by the band at intervals were much appreciated. At the conclusion light refreshments were handed round to the visitors by the staff and boys of the ship, and Sergeant-Ms ior Brown, in thanking the committee for the invitation to be present, expressed a hope that it would he only the forerunner of other evenings of a similar nature. Appropriate remarks from: Commander Hooper concluded an interesting and enjoyable evening. ' '• , The following arc the results of tno boxing competition Fly-weight, Williams beat Kerr; bantam-weight, Woolfe beat Morris; light-weight, Sayee beat McGrath; middle-weight, Edwards beat Hooker; welter-weight,- Chapman v. Jaspereon (a draw). ‘ The results of the draughts competition were ;_Johnson 1, Smith 2, Wilcox 3.
