CAMP AT WAIKANE
MEN PLEASED WITH THE CHANGE. Dr. Huthwaite, of Otaki, accompanied by Nurse Te Au, visited the Waikanae camp yesterday, and the farmer, in company with Captain Hazlett, medical officer, made a tour of inspection The men, generally, were found to be in good health, and very cheerful over the change from Trentham to Waikanae, the latter place being considered ideal in comparison with the old camping ground Fifteen men were found to . be in illhealth, the majority being' laid aside with influenza, while one had a slight attack of measles. All the patients, under an orderly, were taken to Mr H. R. Elder’s residence, where they are receiving every attention. Only three, however, are seriously ill, and one, Private Harold Conway, is now in the Otaki Hospital, while the other cwo will follow immediately. The male Ward at the Otaki'hospital has been cleared of patients and will be utilised for soldiers, and, if necessary, will be isolated. On , account of the heavy rain on Saturday several residents of Waikanae billeted soldiers, Mr Elders wool-shed accommodating no less than .thirty. The kindness of
the Waikanae people is greatly appreciated by the soldiers. A notification that no visitors will be admitted to the camp at Waikanae is posted in a prominent position at the Thorndon railway station.
