MR FISHKR’S CLAIM-

Supporting his contention that Australia has done more to assist the Empire than any other Dominion, Mr Fisher, the Prime Minister, has issued.. a statement comparing the Commonwealth’s efforts with those of New Zealand and Canada, maintaining that, in order bo reach Canada’s contribution, in proportion bo population, Australia, would have to furnish 72,000 men, whereas she has raised 91,000. New Zealand’s contribution is_j?c|ujva!cnt ta. 84,000 men from Austraha, appro?!-,, mately the number already sent. Besides, there is the assistance of the Navy, which the Canadians realise protected their Esquimault dockyards from Admiral von Spec’s depredations. ■ ■ ' The Commonwealth also presented the War Office with a motor transport column costing £200,000. had given effective aid with hospital ships and ambulances, in Egypt alone had ' provided 7450 beds, and had created an efficient . transport service, costing £IOOO daily.
