AN INVENTION

POPE AND THE TANGO. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright ROME, February 9. A high 'authority declares that the story regarding the Pope and the Tango is an invention. [The Paris newspaper “Le Temps’,’ recently stated that, after questioning several persons regarding the alleged immorality of the Tango dance, the Pope decided to judge for himself. Two youthful aristocrats gave His Holiness a demonstration, and at the end the Pope said: “Well, my dear children, you take amusements very sadly.” He advised them to substitute Venetian furlana for the Tango. “Le Temps” added that the furlana had already been practised in Paris. It was called “the Pope’s dance.”]
