TOLSTOI’S LETTERS

The “Pall Mall Gazette” reprints instalments of Count Tolstoi’s and his wife’s letters published in American papers. The Countess in the preface expresses a desire “to share with those who loved my husband and bus letters, and give to them a knowledge ot our harmonious married which was happy almost to tho end.” The Countess adds: —‘I publish tho letters now because after my death there will be the usual false judgments of our relationship.” DISPUTE ABOUT MANUSCRIPTS. (Received December 25, 0.5 a.m.) ST. PETERSBURG, December 24. Tho dispute between Tolstoi’s wife and daughter over the possession ot Tolstoi’s manuscripts has been settled amicably. Photographed copies have been given to each claimant, and tho manuscripts deposited in. tho Museum.
