FIGHTING PARTY POLITICS
EMPLOYERS’ CIRCULAR CONDEMNED AT MASTERTON. Special to the "Times.” MASTERTON, January 14. At the meeting of the Borough Council to-night a circular was received from the New Zealand Employers’ Federation in regard to the establishment of a defence fund to fight “Socialism, syndicalism, anarchy, and the Labour parties,” and appealing for funds for this purpose. The council gave the. appeal no sympathy. “I don’t think the council should take part in fighting party politics,” said the Mayor. Councillor Ewington; “Hear, hear.” The Mayor; “I have no objection to employers fighting the_ battle, and subscribing funds, but this council has no right to use its funds for such a fight. I am certainly not going to support any contribution from this council to the fund.” Other councillorß concurred, and the motion was carried unanimously. Coun-
