July 10. Mr aud Mrs J. D. W. Mcßeth left last week on a two months' holiday trip to Peat (Oriental Bay, Wellington) spent a few days in town last week.

Mr and Mrs Anderson (Unwoo.l. Christchurch) are taking a holiday ni Wanganui. , . Airs Barthorpe (Silveruope) was in town last week. She returned home on Mrs W. J. Hurst left on Wed nesday en route for Australia, wLt.e, they spend some weeks. x . . Mrs C. I’omiwrton (Parapara) has hwn ou a visit to her sister, Airs E. L* Fletcher, Wanga'-'iiu. She left by the 0-*-pro.-s for Rae-Uhi on Saturday. Miss R Hawken returned borne on Thursday from Auckland, where eae had! been visiting friends. _ Mr and Air* Corbett left on .fbursJ day for Westport, where Air Corbett takes over the managership of Mes&rr McGruar and Co.'s new business. Mr and Mrs Wainwright are leaving Wanganui and intend settling in Auckland. Several afternoon teas and evenings have been given Mrs Wainwrigho by her lady friends. On Thursday Mr and Mrs Purser, Wilson street, gave an enjoyable tea to Airs Wainwright, and during the evening Mr H. Purser presented her with a silver entree dish. A number of Wanganui folk journeyed on Thursday evening to Wangaehu to a. c/pcert and dance, in aid of the icnnis Club. Tha concert programme was successfully arranged by Ansa Barnes,, who accompanied throughout. Laterthe hall was cleared for dancing, when about' seventy-five couples took part. Air E.| E. Fletcher was chairman, and Mr bain, Woon ably assisted. Supper was provi-< ded by the ladies of the district, and a, very enjoj’abio time was spent. Aliss C, Neilson supplied the music for the dance, and Mr 11, Hiroti was M.C. A quiet wedding took place on Tuesday last, the ceremony being performed by! the Registrar (Mr C. E. Hylton), wheoj Mies Florence Julia Nixon (Qucenie),. eldest daughter of the late Mr J. Jl.f Nixon, of bedgebrook Grange, Wanga-i nui, was married to Mr Geoffrey! Gwynne-Potts, eldest son of Mr Geoffrey* Potts "Atawhi," Palmerston North.

On Friday evening a very successful progressive Yuchre party and dance was given by Airs Hastings Moore. The proceeds were in aid of the extras required : for the new hall. Twenty-one tables were in use for the euchre partv, the winners being Airs Rath bon and Air Olliver ('first) and Mrs Bourne and Mr J, Freeman (the booby). A splendid supper was served on the stage. The music for the dance was supplied by Mesdamcs O’Hara and Comyns, Misses Alack and Hedditoh, and Alessrs L*. Hedditch, Moore, and H. Alturray. There were ouito seventy-five couples present, on© and all voting the evening one of the j oiliest spent in Gonvilie. Among those 1 present were Mesdamcs Hastings Moore, Chisholm, D. Murray, W. Morgan, Swan, Bourne, Mack. Morgan, Newham, Taylor, OTlara, C. Jones, Arnold, Jensen, Lyell, Fitchett. Martin, Bowater, Culpan, Dimes, Greer, Rath'bon, Connor, the Misses D. Moore, Hedditch, Swau» (2), Mack (2). Perry, Bennifield, Sigley,Murray, Bayley (2), Arnold, and Messrs| W. Morgan, Hastings Moore, Chisholm,i Murray, Lyell, Culpan. Bowater, Bennii fidd, H, Wilson, Hedditoh, B. Rathbon, Townsend, Morris. Allen., Moore <2), Bourn©, Greer, 'Connor,| Comyiis (2), and many others. It was announced during the evening that socials would be held on the second Tuesday of each month during th© winter. Heavy rain set in on Sunday night, and continued all day Monday. Mrs Langridg© has issued invitations} for a plain and fancy dress bail, to be| held in the Fire Brigade Hall on Wedi nesday evening next. On Friday evening the AramohOi Lodge, No. 61, U.A.0.D., will give a plain and fancy dress ball in the Fire Brigade Hall, The committee is a very influential one, Mr J, Logan being hon. sec. . .
