I Their Excellencies Lord Islington and i Lady Islington gave a dinner party at Government House last evening, to which the following had the honour of receiving invitations Air and Mrs (J. Wilson. Blair, who ha.ro been on a trip to Sydney, returned by the UUmaroa yesterday. Mr and Mrs J. Cooper (Masterton) are staying at the Occidental. Mrs Gerald Fitzgerald i<?_ leaving to-day for England by the Athenic. Captain and Mrs Moss arrived from England by the Cofinthic on Tuesday, and'are staying at the Windsor. Miss Moore (Christchurch) is staying at Miss Morton's. Mr and Mrs Buckle (Picton) are staying at the Windsor. Mass Vallance and Hiss Nora Bennett left for Masterton yesterday. Mis T. McKenzie, of Maaterton, arrived in town yesterday, and is staying at the Occidental. Mrs Webb has arrived from Sydney and is staying at the Empire Hotel. Mrs P* Hervey, Airs Webb's daughter, is now quite convalescent. A-figg Macpherson (Dunedin)- is staying with Mrs B. Simpson. Mrs Turrell (Christchurch) is staying at *the Royal Oak, Mr and Mrs Ward ’ (Christchurch) are staying at the Occidental. Airs Lake (Picton) is on a visit to Wellington. Mr and Mrs Olliver Bunny (T© Await©. Wairarapo.) axe leaving to-day on a trip to England. Miss Dobie, of Auckland, who has been touring with the Sheffield Choir down south, passed through Wellington yesterday on her return to Auckland. Miss Eain-e (Timaru), who arrived in Wellington yesterday, is staying at the Royal Oak. Airs W. G. Beard (Masterton) and Miss Beard have gone on a visit to Napier, The Masses Strang (2) and Miss McLaren (Walrarapa) are staying at the Ocidental. Mr and Mrs G. W. Palmer (Wanganui) are staying at the Royal Oak. Mr and Airs Hadfield t from the Church of Christ Mission Station, South Africa, arrived in Wellington by the Corinthic. Yesterday afternoon the Normal School bazaar, held in the Sydney street Hall, was opened by Mr J. G. W. Aitken. The otalls all presented a veiy attractive appearance, and judging from the animated scenes witnessed at the stalls Mrs McMannay was kept very busy at the plain work and children's clothing, -where things of all descriptions may b© purchased for children. Alesdames Bowles, Stratton and Cooper were disposing of pot plants. The fancy stall was under the management of Afxs Webb. Airs Boyce did a brisk business with sweets, also Mrs Freem'an with fruit and produce. Airs Ciiniberg was in charge of the toy v s and bran tub, and the flower stall was in charge of Airs Sinclair. Tea and refreshments, which were in much demand, w*re dispensed by Miss Cray and Miss Webb.

Mrs Frank Leckie, hon. treasurer, acknowledges 'with many thanks on beyhalf of the poster ball committee the following donations : —Messrs Walter Bethune, Andrews, Miligan and Harcourt, il Is each; Gear Company, £1; Messrs Hill and Sons, Pallaser, Wong Wah, 10a 6d each; Mr S. Gilmer, 10s.

Very bright and gay was the scene at Fullers Olympia, Rink last evening, the occasion being a fancy-dress carnival. There were a very large number of competitors, and the floor was covered with skaters in fancy dress of every description. The march past, with a very good representation of King George and Queen Mary loading, was watched ■with interest by the many spectators!, tho different evolutions being perfectly performed. Among tho most effective fancy dresses wore the Petone Woollen Mills, a raven, railway labels, Juliet, and an enthusiastic beginner. Besides these were clowns, pierrots, nigger minstrels, footballers, cowboys, Grecian men and women, courtiers of the time of Charles 1., French peasants, and Belgian peasants. The re* suit of the competitions will be announced at tho rink to-night.
