SYNOD IN SESSION. . BPBOIAI TO Till " TIKES." CHROHTCHURCH. November 23. Tiio Christchurch Methodist Synod met in ministerial session "to-day,' Bov. Henry Bull, connexions! secretary, preferred a request to be allowed to make a supernumerary ! at : the i ensuing conference, after forty-three years’ active service. A motion was carried unanimously placing on record the splendid service which Mr Bull has rendered to the church in variouscapacittes, regretting the necessity for his retirement, and ■ recommending Conference to accede to his request. The 'usual reports on the work of the probationers, Revs. C. Roberts and J. F. Martin, were considered. Subject to the -written examinations proving satisfactory, Rev. C. Roberts was recommended to Conference for- ordination, and Rev. J. P. Martin was recommended to pass in his year. , Rev. h. Hudson requested permission to rest for a year, with, a view to his visiting England, ;. . , The afternoon session was devoted to the consideration of candidates for the ministry. The candidates were orally examined. Reports were-furnished concerning each of them, and after reviewing their cases the Synod unanimously recommended the acceptance by Conference -of Messrs 0. Barnet, W. J. Bntioott,.E. Spiers.and S. J. Werrin as candidates for the ministry, subject to their written examinations proving satisfactory.
