Mr, Mrs and Miss Hayman are stopping at the Windsor, Mr and Mrs Caughey, of Auckland, are staying at the Windsor. A garden party in connection with the W.C.T.U. is to be held towards the end of this month. Two farewell teas were given yesterday afternoon —one to Mrs Malcolm E-ess and one to Mrs Burnes. Mrs ]?. T. Porter, who leaves by the Ruahine to-day, has been staying in town with her tw'o daughters. Miss-Munro and the Misses - HoUway (-2), who have been spending a holiday in the North, returned to Wellington last night, and are staying at the Windsor for a-Tow days before leaving for their home in Christchurch. The "Times" London correspondent annouuces an engagement between Mr J. Tattersail Whlceley and Miss Margaret Clara Scott Johnstone. The bridegroom elect is tho eldest son of Lord and Lady Marcbainley, while Miss Johnstone is the younger daughter of Mr and Mrs I. Scott Johnstone, of Glanmark, Waitara, New Zealand. Mrs J. Edmond, of Invercargill, is in London just now for the purpose, of takiu" her son to an English school. She has placed him at Maidenhead College. Berkshire. ’ Mrs Edmond will remain in England until her son's schooling is completed. Meanwhile she hopes to visit the Continent and also Scotland and Ireland. She has just returned to London from a visit to heri sister-in-law, Mrs H. Chaffer, at Blackpool, and other friends at Manchester and Leeds.
