Peter Dec, a Samoan missionary, wa.s murdered by natives at tile Presbyterian mission station at Arukum. Mr Bee was relieving the resident missionary, who was away on furlough.

After spearing Mr Bee, the natives threatened to kill his wife, but eventually went away, leaving the mission property undamaged.
