LANDS FOR SETTLEMENT.

HAWKE’S BAY ESTATES TO BE ACQUIRED. The estate of Airs Rathbono and family, in tho Hawke’s Bay district, which it was announced yesterday the Government intends to acquire, consists, roughly, of about 21,000 acres, divided, into four various-sized blocks. Generally the land is conveniently situated, is of good quality, and tho bulk of' it is cleared. The “home” blocks, separated by the railway line and a few miles of country-side, are situated at Waipawa, and are wellknown as th© Abbotsford estate. The block to the north of the lino consists of 5611 acres, and lies immediately west of the Waipawa township. The Rathbono holding on the other side of the line is smaller, consisting of some 1641 acres only, all first-class land. Another portion of tho estate is the Otanga block (4800 acres), the western boundary of which is only some three or four miles from Dannevirke. Alatamau station is on its northern boundary. There is another block of 5700 acres near Ormondville, and one ’ of 2300 acres at Hampden, including some of tho finest sheep country in the colony. Another estate in Hawke’s Bay the Government has intimated its intention of acquiring under tho Lands for Settlement Act- is Air Thomas Lowry's fine Okawa estate of 13,000 acres, situated some ten miles west from Hastings.
