The New Zealand footballers tonring England were present at the annual gala of the Hornsey Swimming Club, wluch was held on September 26th, and expressed a lesire to swim againat a team from the club. This was rather hard to arrange, as the club’s best men were engaged to swim and play polo, but to gratify the wishes of the visitors a ©cratch race was arranged between five New Zealanders and a like number of men from the Hornsey and Worthing Clubs. The New Zealand team consisted of G. Tyler, F. Newtown, J. Hunter, F. Roberts, and F. Garrity. The Englishmen (each of whom had previously swum and played polo) were handicapped, but managed to hold the lead until Garrity (the footballers’ third man) entered the water and gained an advantage for the visitors. The combined team could not again draw level, and were finally beaten, tho time being smin 19 2-5 sec.
