WORKERS' DWELLINGS.

POLHILL GULLY AND AIIRAMAR RESERVES. FIRST HOAIES TO BE ERECTED AT POLHILL. An amendment to the Workers’ Dwellings Act Amendment Bill was introduced to the House of Representatives last night by Governor’s message. Tliis amendment provides that tho Governor may from time to time, by Order-in-Council gazetted, set apart under the principal act the Polhill Gully and tho forts reserve, Miramar, and any other land reserved for defence purposes that in his opinion is not required for such purposes, in tho same manner as if the same were ordinary Cronn land. It further amends the principal act by providing that the cost of the erection of any worker’s dwelling is not to exceed £350 if constructed of wood, or £4OO if contracted of brick (instead of £3OO in both cases, as previously provided). In reply to questions; Air Seddon said the bill in no way interfered with the Polhill Gully rifle range. In taking tho range, tho Government bad to buy a largo block of land on tho terrace. This land was now lying unoccupied. It had been surveyed, and he hoped to have tho first workmen’s homes in tho colony erected there very shortly. The amendments wore added to the bill.
