AN ASSAULT CASE.
pnr.ss ASSOCIATION. OHEISTCHUECH, May 25. At the Jlagistrate’s Court to-day, Mrs Florence Neville claimed £SO damages from R. H. More ton. an artist, for. mjuries received as the result of defendant assaulting her. Plaintiff’s account'of the affair was that she went to defendant’s studio to speak to him regarding, her father's affairs, when defendant became angry, and dragged her downstairs, bumped her head on the footpath, and put her face in the street gutter. When she returned to the building he emptied two buckets of water upon licr. Defendant stated that he had carried plaintiff downstairs, placing one of his hands over her month to stop her : screaming. She bad indulged in a perfect torrent of abuse and had threatened to remain on the landing, and "show him up’’ to his pupils. He denied that he- had bumped her on the pavement or put her in the gutter, and alleged that she had thrown a brick at him. Other evidence was to the effect that plaintiff and defendant had a regular fight plaintiff flying at Moreton like a cat. The ■ Magistrate fined defendant £lO and costs.
