MASTERTON.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) Thursday, 7.40 p.m. An interesting case was heard in the Magistrate's Court to-day, when Percy Hermann, publican, formerly of the Rutland Hotel, Wanganui, sued Jerome Bacovich for £3O for money lent, board and lodging, etc. The defence was that Bacovioh was in a state of mental derangement when the liability was incurred, and that plaintiff had taken advantage of this. The Magistrate held that the account was a reasonable one, and gave judgment for the plaintiff for £2B ss, and £6 6s costs. The Masterton Mounted Rifles' ball is being held this evening. The Masterton Chamber of Commerce intends making representations to the Education Board upon the desirability of establishing a district high school here. A good specimen of coal has been found on the property of Mr J. \V. Lang, of Pakowhai. A sample has been sent to Wellington for analysis.
