THE SITUATION IN THE FAR EAST.

The British squadron, with the exception of H.M.S. Powerful, which recently arrived at Chemulpo, the port of the capital of Corea, to prevent the dismissal of Sir J. MoLsavy Brown, British Superintendent of the Corean Customs, has left that port and is returning to Hongkong. The Powerful will remain at Chemulpo 5 for the present, to safeguard British interests there.
Berlin, January 11. .The Berlin Post states that the British Government was sounded upon the question of the German occupation of Kiaoohau, and it had no objection to the course taken by Germany.

Sir Matthew Ridley, Home Secretary, speaking at Fleetwood, stated that the British policy in China is to watch and wait. Her superior navy gave her the key to the situation.
The Continental papers are pleased with the moderation of Mr Balfour’s references to China.
Dilatoriness on the part of the Chinese Government is delaying tho negotiations with England for the loan.
