A large hole has been stove in the engine-room of the steamer Ranelagh, which went ashore during the heavy gale raging on the Queensland coast, but her bulkheads are holding, and she is anchored in a good position. Received January 12, 9.50 p.ra. Brisbane, January 12. The Ranelagh’s passengers are safe. The water filled the engine-room in a couple of minutes, and the engineers and firemen reached the deck with difficulty. The steamer Merrie England broke from her moorings and drifted down to Lytton before being pulled up.
