A bulky paper dealing with tho HorowEonua case, embracing reports of the legal proceedings, has just been laid on the table of tho House. Mr McKenzie’s Horowhenua Block Bill is under consideration of Cabinet, and will be circulated during the week, Tho Premier intends moving that after this week Government business shall have precedence on Wednesdays for the remainder of the session. The innovation is looked upon with disfavour by many members, especially those with little Bills up their sleeves. A paper on the subject of ..direct steam services, laid on the table of the House, contains a statement of the comparative freights on wool, meat and dairy produce shipped from Melbourne to London and from New Zealand to London. This shows that in 1896 the freights on these articles from New Zealand were estimated by the Glasgow Secretary of Customs at .£963,514, while had they been carried at the Victorian rates the cost would be only £502,601.
