DROWNING ACCIDENT.
PLUCKY ATTEMPT AT RESCUE BY TWO BO IS. Dv Tcicgraph.—Press Association. Auckland, October 11. On the i.Uh inat. a boy 10 years of ago named Reginald Blvine, tho eldest son of Air F. Elvitio, settlor, of Makarau, was drowned. The lad left home to go v Ith two boys named Hooper and another boy named Harry Mannell to play on logs at the booms in the Makarau river. Tho elder boy Hooper, Mannell and deceased got oh one log, which commenced rolling. Maunell and deceased wore thrown into water 12ft deop. Hooper jumped in and got Mannell on tlij log again and at oniiC want after deceased, who Caught hold of him round the neck so that ho could not swim. After struggling some time in the water ho reached the log in a very exhausted condition. His brother pulled him on the log, but the deceased was too much exhausted and lot go his hold of Hooper and sank. At the inquest a verdict of accidentally drowned was returned. The j ury awarded great praise to tho boys Hooper for the plucky manner in which they triad to save the deceased.
